Plums have a smooth skin and vary widely in shape, colour and taste depending on the variety. Their flavour ranges from sweet to pleasantly acidic, which is why they are particularly refreshing and pleasant during the summer.
Our leading variety is the Angeleno, one of the best-selling plums on the market, harvested from the last 10 days of August until the end of September. This variety has a long shelf life, good consistency and high sugar content that varies depending on where it is grown. Other varieties of note include Crimson Glo and Black Splendor, which are both red-fleshed plums. Their optimal sugar content and irresistible flavour is ensured when harvested at just the right ripeness.
Plums generally have a sugar content of 12 - 15 degrees Brix but the October Sun variety can be as high as 18 degrees Brix. They have 146 Kcal/100 g and contain 9.5 mg/100 g of vitamin C.
